Article: Fill A Backpack Project

Fill A Backpack Project

Like how I was introduced to most Rotaract Clubs in the city, Sailesh Sharma (most right in the photo above) approached us to see if we could partner with the Rotaract Club of Chandragiri and support schools in the district.

Sailesh and his club members have always been active in service. Like organising menstration awareness campaigns to water and sanitation (WASH) programs in rural public schools.

Our goal was to support 3 schools that the club had identified. Like any other projects, we firsted visit the schools and spend time with headmasters and teachers to find out more about the barriers students face in school.

In total, we've raised 305,150 NRS (3,661.80 SGD) for this project.Distribution at Shree Saraswoti Bidhyaashram Secondary School.

Next, Shree Bhimsen Aaarsha Secondary School, where we distributed 164 schoolbags.
Distribution at Shree Buddha Bhagwan Secondary School was something that hit home for Sailesh (photo of him distributing a schoolbag below).

This was his community. His school. Never would he imagine returning back one day with a truckload full of books and backpacks.

After the program we asked him how it feels to revisit Shree Buddha Bhagwan Secondary School now as a Rotaractor giving back to his community. He responded:

“My father, has never been more proud of me.”
